Security bulletin summaries:

1. A potential vulnerability has been identified on the HP Tru64 UNIX
operating system running DNS BIND4 or BIND8 when used by DNS
Forwarders. The vulnerability could be exploited remotely to gain
unauthorized privileged access to the DNS clients.

2. A potential security vulnerability has been identified in the SSL

remote attacker to force the use of a weaker security protocol
via a man-in-the-middle attack.

3. Potential security vulnerabilities have been identified with HP
Systems Insight Manager (SIM) versions 4.0 and 5.0 running on
Microsoft Windows. The potential vulnerabilities could be
exploited to allow remote unauthorized access to files via
directory traversal.

VULNERABILITY SUMMARY
A potential vulnerability has been identified on the HP Tru64 UNIX
operating system running DNS BIND4 or BIND8 when used by DNS
Forwarders. The vulnerability could be exploited remotely to gain
unauthorized privileged access to the DNS clients.

SUPPORTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS*: ONLY impacted versions are listed.
The following supported versions of HP Tru64 UNIX are affected:

* HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-3
* HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-2/PK4
* HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1A PK6
* HP Tru64 UNIX 4.0G PK4
* HP Tru64 UNIX 4.0F PK8

BACKGROUND

The Internet Software Consortium's (isc.org) Berkeley Internet
Name Domain (BIND) is a popular DNS server used on many operating
systems including Tru64 UNIX.

- - From the Internet Software Consortium's web site
http://www.isc.org:

BIND4/BIND8 Unsuitable for Forwarder Use

If a nameserver -- any nameserver, whether BIND or otherwise --
is configured to use "forwarders", then none of the target
forwarders can be running BIND4 or BIND8. Upgrade all
nameservers used as "forwarders" to BIND9. There is a current,
wide scale Kashpureff-style DNS cache corruption attack which
depends on BIND4 and BIND8 as "forwarders" targets.

Due to architectural limitations BIND4/BIND8 will never be
suitable for use as a forwarder target. BIND9 should be used
instead.

RESOLUTION

HP has released the following Early Release Patch kits (ERPs)
publicly for use by any customer. The ERP kits use dupatch to
install and will not install over any Customer Specific Patches
(CSPs) that have file intersections with the ERP.

The ERP kits distribute the following items:

* The BIND9 release
* BIND9 manpages
* Upgraded bindconfig application to support BIND9
(5.1B-3, 5.1B-2/PK4, and 5.1A PK6 only)

HPSBMA02096 SSRT061108 rev.2 - HP Systems Insight Manager Remote
Unauthorized Access - Directory Traversal

NOTICE: The information in this Security Bulletin should be acted
upon as soon as possible.

Release Date: 2006-02-06
Last Updated: 2006-02-07

Potential Security Impact: Remote unauthorized access via
directory traversal

Source: Hewlett-Packard Company,
HP Software Security Response Team

VULNERABILITY SUMMARY
Potential security vulnerabilities have been identified with HP
Systems Insight Manager (SIM) versions 4.0 and 5.0 running on
Microsoft Windows. The potential vulnerabilities could be
exploited to allow remote unauthorized access to files via
directory traversal.

References: CVE-2005-2006

SUPPORTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS*: ONLY impacted versions are listed.
HP SIM 4.2, HP SIM 4.2 SP1, HP SIM 4.2 SP2,
HP SIM 5.0, HP SIM 5.0 SP1, HP SIM 5.0 SP2, HP SIM 5.0 SP3
running on Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP.

BACKGROUND

The Hewlett-Packard Company thanks
Matthew Cook (http://escarpment.net/), Loughborough University and
Paul Whitton (http://splurby.net/), Loughborough University
for reporting this vulnerability to security-alert@hp.com.

Two potential directory traversal vulnerabilities have been
identified within HP Systems Insight Manager.

The first is a potential vulnerability associated with the use of
JBOSS 3.2.7 which could allow an unauthorized user access to files
on the local file system. This issue is identified by the
following candidate for Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures(CVE):

CVE-2005-2006 - JBOSS 3.2.2 through 3.2.7 and 4.0.2 allows remote
attackers to obtain sensitive information via a GET request.

The following URL at the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures(CVE)
website can be used to find more detailed information regarding
the above listed CVE numbers: http://www.cve.mitre.org/

The affected versions for the first potential vulnerability
related to CVE-2005-2006 are:

HP SIM 5.0
HP SIM 5.0 SP1
HP SIM 5.0 SP2
HP SIM 5.0 SP3
Only for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP.

The affected versions for the second potential vulnerability are:

HP SIM 4.2
HP SIM 4.2 SP1
HP SIM 4.2 SP2
HP SIM 5.0
HP SIM 5.0 SP1
HP SIM 5.0 SP2
HP SIM 5.0 SP3
Only for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

These issues can be addressed by manually editing configuration
files in the HP SIM installation as described below.

First Issue (CVE-2005-2006):

This requires a single line modification to an XML configuration
file. The affected file is located in the
/jboss/server/hpsim/conf
directory and is called jboss-service.xml

Note: is the base directory where HP SIM is
installed. A typical default installation would be
"C:\program files\hp\Systems Insight Manager"".

First the file should be copied to a backup location. If there are
problems in the editing process the original file can be restored.

Next edit the jboss-service.xml file and search for 50013. The
following text will be seen:

name="jboss:service=WebService">
50013

true
${jboss.bind.address}
${jboss.bind.address}

Change the following line:

true

To:

false

After editing the text should look like this:

name="jboss:service=WebService">
50013

false
${jboss.bind.address}
${jboss.bind.address}

Save the file. After applying the change for the second issue
(below) restart HP SIM.

Second Issue:

This requires a single line modification to a resource file. The
affected file is located in the
\hpwebadmin\webapps\mxhelp\WEB-INF\cgi
directory and is called .namazurc

Note: is the base directory where HP SIM is
installed. A typical default installation would be
"C:\program files\hp\Systems Insight Managerr".

First the file should be copied to a backup location. If there are
problems in the editing process the original file can be restored.

Next edit the .namazurc file and search for #Lang. The following
text will be seen:

#Lang ja

If the HP SIM installation is an English language installation
change the line to:

Lang en

If the HP SIM installation is a Japanese language installation
change the line to:

Lang ja_JP.SJIS

Note: Make sure to remove the # at the beginning of the line.

Save the file and restart HP SIM.

This Security Bulletin will be revised if other solutions become
available.
