Understanding electronic attack

As businesses look towards technologies that can offer more sophisticated features and services to improve business delivery so they will open up increased opportunities to exploit their networks and systems.

For many organisations the issue is complicated by the fact that certain functions such as data processing, administration and server hosting are now routinely outsourced or sub-contracted, meaning that the protection of their information is also dependent on the standards adhered to by other businesses and their staff.

Whilst vendors undertake considerable effort to improve the security of their products, including timely patch provision, many incidents that have involved the release of malware (malicious software) into a network have typically stemmed from a simple mis-judgment or moment of carelessness by a member of staff, maybe because they were using an unencrypted USB device or had ignored procedures regarding external email.
