Privacy, cookie and legal information

Privacy statement

The CPNI website does not store or capture personal information about you, but merely logs the IP address that is automatically recognised by the web server. The system will only record your email address and other information if volunteered to us by you, for example via the 'contact' page.

Cookies

The CPNI website itself does not make use of cookies. However, to support our information provision and engagement, we sometimes use other resources on the web such as YouTube. As a result, when you visit content on other sites, you may be presented with cookies from those websites. CPNI does not control the dissemination of these third party cookies. You should check the third party websites for more information about these (see footnote).

Data Protection

This Act requires that we inform you that if you volunteer any information to us, for example via the 'contact' page, such information may include personal data (that is, information about you). CPNI is a data controller for the purposes of this Act.

We will process the data from your message. If you ask for information that is not already published on the website, we shall try to respond to your enquiry where security constraints permit. We may need to contact other Government departments to answer it fully. If your enquiry is technical, we may need to pass some information on to our technology suppliers.

Any data you supply will be transmitted to us and processed securely and will not be retained for longer than is necessary. This data will be treated in the strictest confidence and we will only disclose such data to any person or organisation for the purposes for which it was collected or for the purpose of our statutory functions.

As a data subject, you have the right to ask for a copy of the data and to ask for any inaccuracies to be corrected.

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) came into force 1 January 2005, and allows members of the public to request access to information held by certain public authorities.

In legal terms, CPNI is not subject to FOIA and therefore will not process FOIA requests.

For further information on FOIA please refer to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Limitations and amendments

This statement only covers the CPNI website www.cpni.gov.uk. This statement does not cover third party websites to which we may link.

Any revisions to this statement will be published on this page. It is your responsibility to check this page periodically for any such changes.

Footnote

Where services are delivered on the internet, this sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, computer or mobile phone. These include small files known as cookies; you can manage these small files yourself and learn more about them through Internet browser cookies - what they are and how to manage them.
