NPSA and NCSC launch Secure Innovation Personalised Action Plan

We are pleased to announce a new online tool to provide bespoke protective security advice for businesses. The National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) have launched the Secure Innovation Personalised Action Plan. NPSA and NCSC are now able to offer more tailored security guidance options to tech businesses at scale.

Given the scale of the UK’s technology sector, NPSA and the NCSC are exploring new ways to ensure small businesses are getting the security support they need. Our new Personalised Action Plan is aimed at early-stage companies developing innovative technologies. By answering a few simple questions, the tool will identify gaps in an organisation’s security measures and generate a bespoke security action plan to guide companies on taking the next steps on their security journey. While the tool was created for organisations of up to 50 employees working in the technology sector, businesses of all sizes are welcome to use it.

The Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden spoke about the launch of the online tool this week, as part of the government’s larger plan to boost the UK’s economic defences. He said the plan of action is based on “reassurance, protection, and engagement”, thus giving British businesses “the clarity and coherence they need to plan and to thrive”.

Secure Innovation aims to support early-stage technology companies with the motivation and tools they need to deliver effective protective security. We launched the Secure Innovation campaign at an event in San Francisco in October 2023 alongside other 5EYES partners. The purpose is to support the economic security of our start-ups and spin outs in the critical and emerging technology sector.

By demonstrating their commitment to improving their security, businesses will make themselves more attractive to investors and funders, as well as gain an advantage in winning contracts with customers who value security. Through Secure Innovation, we want to create a collective approach to the security of our most innovative, exciting businesses, at a time when they may be at their most vulnerable.

You can find the Secure Innovation Personalised Action Plan tool on the Secure Innovation pages of the NPSA website.
